As part of the autumn / winter 2020 collection (FW20), several unique pieces were created in collaboration between Appenzeller Gurt and the men's fashion label Bode from New York, which were presented at Paris Fashion Week.
The look of the collection was inspired by the techsupportreviews early life and work of the New York artist and Appenzeller belt wearer Benjamin Bloomstein and combines antique fabrics and patterns with Appenzell brass ornaments.
"The Guardian"
describes Bode as "the most influential men's clothing label that has
never been heard of". New York designer Emily Bode is best known for
creating keepsakes from quilts, table linen, and other vintage fabrics, and her
rise speaks volumes about the changing demands of fashion. Her textured,
sepia-colored pieces are the exact opposite of the mass-produced sportswear
styles that have ruled men's fashion for the past decade.
The Curious Case of
Benjamin Bloomstein
The cultural background and the unconventional schooling, which
form the basis for Bloomstein's training, reflect the principles of Bode:
reuse, self-sufficiency and the commitment to preserving the history of the
craft. The FW20 pays homage to the early communities and cultural groups
that have long been rooted in these traditions. Benjamin Bloomstein -
trained blacksmith, weaver and carpenter - creates a mixture of plastic objects
and furniture as part of the Green River Project LLC collective.
Return to old
traditions
As a sign of this return to craftsmanship and old traditions, the
history of the Appenzell alpine dairy and its gold applications go well with
this collection. The brass ornaments on belts, coats, trousers and shoes
allude to this rural component and are used primarily as a strong contrast to
the plain colors and fabrics that are atypical for Bode.
The Appenzell slipper
The collection also includes the designer’s first shoe design -
the Bode House shoe is designed for outdoor use but was inspired by the comfort
of the home's interiors. The shoes in the collection are a partnership
with Plasticana, a 100% recyclable hemp-based shoe, also decorated with
Appenzeller belt ornaments.
